About
I love sketching and painting and exhibit my work in London, Berkshire and Hampshire. My paintings are in collections in the UK, USA and Europe.
When I paint I am sharing a thought or an idea of how I see the world. I start by sketching what I see, for example a tangle of weeds or wild flowers in the countryside around my home in all seasons or the weathered rocks by the sea whilst on holiday. I then develop these into paintings. Colour is important to me and a recent project recalled the games we played as children such as ring-a-ring-a-roses and oranges and lemons.
Born in East Sussex, I spent some years in London, then Oman where the light and rich colours of the women's clothes helped me appreciate the beauty of colour. I now live in the lovely countryside of Hampshire and work in oils, acrylics, watercolours, gouache, inks, charcoal and pastels - often mixing them in one painting.
I admire the work of Barbara Rae, Joan Eardley, JMW Turner, Paul Cezanne, Vincent van Gogh and Henri Matisse.
